How to Obtain Certification of Green Building According to Standards

Green building certification is not easy. Numerous steps must be taken to obtain a green building certificate. Green building refers to various aspects, from construction and operation of buildings, carried out in an environmentally responsible manner. It also includes design, construction, and use of natural resources.

Furthermore, many green buildings are currently being implemented to address global warming. Indonesia has also entered this stage, requiring a focus on green buildings. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact on the health and well-being of occupants.

How to Obtain Green Building Certification

Obtaining a certificate is crucial for proving that a building is sustainable. The institution that issues this certification is the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBC Indonesia). GBC Indonesia is committed to promoting green building practices through public education.

It facilitates the transformation of the construction industry towards sustainability. This institution offers two main certification programs: GREENSHIP and EDGE. Both programs evaluate and certify buildings with green and sustainable designs.

Submission of Output Documents

As mentioned previously, obtaining a certificate is not easy. However, obtaining it can serve as official proof that a building meets sustainability standards, including environmentally friendly materials, centralized waste management, and energy efficiency.

This certificate is issued based on several factors, including the submission of output documents. This certificate covers technical planning, construction implementation, and utilization. Once these documents are complete, there are still steps to complete to obtain the certificate.

Approval Stages

Green building certification also involves several stages. After document submission, the technical planning stage begins. Ensure the building has been approved and meets the BGH technical standards. After that, the construction stage also ensures a Certificate of Functional Worthiness has been obtained and meets the BGH technical standards.

Meanwhile, the utilization stage also requires an extension of the Certificate of Functional Worthiness. Performance assessments are conducted by a professional team through verification of the complete performance assessment list and supporting documentation from the technical planning stage. The application process, document verification, determination, and issuance of the certificate are handled by the local government. The certificate is valid for five years from the date of issuance.

These are the crucial stages of green building certification, which demonstrates a building’s sustainability. The certificate helps ensure that the building meets environmentally friendly standards. This helps address climate change, which can lead to serious natural disasters, especially in Indonesia. This is why the government prioritizes green buildings.
