Will Ospreay debuted at AEW Full Gear Saturday Night at the Fabulous Kia Form in Los Angeles, California, finally a member of the AEW Roster. What an unbelievable signing for All Elite Wrestling and Tony Kahn. This was one of the expected signings when the announcement happened. And as Full Pres Wrestling reported last night and put out, Will Ospreay is officially All Elite.
This was the right move for well, and here’s why. As much as WWE wanted him, he wasn’t going to fit in there. He’s not one of their own, and he wasn’t going to be pushed to the top. No doubt he probably would have been world champion one day, but not right away. There are matches Ospreay was going to have with the likes of AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Finn Balor, and others. However, he would not have fit that scripted style of wrestling either. His style of wrestling fits with AEW.
Not to mention, do you know where Ospreay can be champion right now? It is All Elite Wrestling, as Full Press Wrestling stated on Saturday night. Will Ospreay is known to the All Elite Wrestling Fan. They have seen him at Forbidden Door along with WrestleDream. He has been at All In at Wembley Stadium, taking on Chris Jericho. Not to mention, he has been on Rampage, Dynamite, and Collision. People know him from New Japan Pro Wrestling. They know him from Revolve. They’ve seen him wrestle in the UK. So it just made sense. WWE fans don’t know who he is. They would not know how to react, so going to AEW was the right play.
And not to mention, Tony Khan had the money to get them. But also, let’s be honest, and let’s be realistic. The wrestling style in AEW suits Will Ospreay better than it does in WWE. That’s why a lot of guys don’t go to WWE. WWE isn’t the be-all-end-all anymore. And for Will Ospreay, the right decision was to go to AEW. And it’s the only decision because as much as WWE wanted him again, where was he going to fit in?
You take a guy like AJ Styles for a minute. When he first came in, he debuted at the Royal Rumble; he was hot. Vince McMahon wasn’t so sure about him, but once he heard the crowd’s reaction, he knew he had to propel him to the top.. He had one reign as World Champion. That is not good enough for one of the best wrestlers in the world. Again, WWE just doesn’t know how to use them. Granted, Triple H is in charge now, and Vince McMahon was in charge then, but still, where is AJ now?
Granted, Styles had a great cinematic match with the Undertaker at WrestleMania. He held the US title, but what else has he done? He hasn’t really done anything. And to be honest, I think he should go to TNA or go to AEW for one more final run because this is not the AJ Styles we know. WWE is just too scripted, and if you’re not their guy or guys, they won’t push you to the top like they should.
Now, with Will Ospreay, we’re gonna see what he does in AEW. We Know the feud with Kenny Omega. They still got one more in that trilogy. Kenny Omega got one win at Wrestle Kingdom. Will Ospreay got one up in Toronto at Forbidden Door 2. What a match that was. So we know that’s there. We know Will Ospreay is going to be holding up his end, too. He will be finishing up wrestling for New Japan and Revovle, and then he’s going to be on the way to Revolution.

This is an unbelievable get, considering what happened with CM Punk and Jade Cargill. Cargill went to WWE. Oh, by the way, she has yet to wrestle a match in WWE. You almost wonder if she was too green for that company and maybe should have stayed in AEW and not left for the money. And now we’re going to see what MJF does next year. But this is a huge get for the company.
And it was the right decision for, well, and you know, Ospreay is one of those guys that the people know what’s the best wrestler in the world. Where he is ranked in the PWI Top 500 is embarrassing. The guy puts on killer matches every year. And he put on several killer matches this year, including part of the New Japan Cup. He’s put on great matches on every pay-per-view he has done with any company. Now, let’s see what happens in a couple of years. You never know. However, this company has great stars for Ospreay to wrestle.
Don’t forget Bryan Danielson is winding down. There is Jon Moxley. Not to mention Orange Cassidy. They fought at the first Forbidden Door. You got Swerve Strickland and Kenny Omega, who we mentioned before. You know the box. What happens with the United Empire? We know he’s part of this Don Callis Family. He has been a recruit on this side of Don Callis against Kenny Omega. So it’s gonna be interesting to see where he goes but the fact of the matter is All Elite Wrestling landed one of the biggest fish out there to close out 2023 to get the headlines turning in their favor.
Now again, we all say enjoy everything. But it’s a business, but enjoy everything. Because don’t take it for granted. And Will Ospreay is not going to take this opportunity for granted. He wants to be here. He wants to go here. This is the best place for him. Again, WWE is great, but it’s not the be-all end-all anymore.
And the way he sees guys being used over there is kind of a turn-off to him as well. So again, not in the mind of Will Ospreay, but again, it’s just a perfect opportunity for him to be here and be in All Elite Wrestling and put on the best matches possible.
