The Icon Sting has called it a career in the world of professional wrestling.
His final match came on Sunday, March 3rd inside the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina in the main event of AEW Revolution. As much as Sting wanted to go out on his back being from the old school where it is the time honored tradition of losing your final match in the business, this was a fitting ending for Sting.

Sting went out with his hand held high as he went to all the turnbuckles with one of the AEW World Tag Teams titles above his head. Yes, to not give anything away, Darby Allin and Sting defeated the Young Bucks to retain the AEW World Tag Team Titles in a Tornado Tag Team match.
In the press conference to follow, as predicted on Full Press Wrestling, Sting and Darby Allin vacated the titles to set up a tag team title tournament. This will allow the rankings system to be used to their full potential. But more on that at another time. This was about the Icon Sting.
Was this a five-star quality match? No. But it had five-star quality moments. Sting is the only wrestler in AEW history to have an undefeated record. While Jade Cargill did have won, her streak came to an end before she left for WWE. Sting and Darby Allin have been a tag team since his arrival in December 2020 at Winter is Coming.
It was fantastic to see Sting’s kids, who were beaten up by the Young Bucks, dressed as Surfer Sting and Wolfpac Sting before the Icon himself came out to Seek and Destroy. Before the entrance, a little montage of his career in AEW was shown, as the man himself sat down in a movie theatre to watch it. Then he said his line, ‘It’s Showtime For the Last Time, Let’s Do This.’
It’s showtime.

This was a wild and crazy match. Darby Allin’s bump through glass that was set up on chairs. He dove off a 14-foot ladder. Allin’s back was all cut up and was not seen until the end of the match.
Darby Allin goes through the glass!

However, with Allin out of the match, Sting was by himself as it should be. He took on both Young Bucks. Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair, who were both on hand for this event, got involved and taken out by the Bucks. Two EVP triggers were not enough to keep the Stinger down. When the Bucks went for the TK Driver, Allin pushed one of the Bucks through a table.

This set up Sting for a Scorpion Death Drop and a count of two. He set up for his finisher again, soaking it all in. Hit the Scorpion Death Drop before Allin hit the Coffin Drop. Then Sting locked on his Scorpion Death-Lock to Nick Jackson to pick up his last career victory.
After the match was over, Sting took the microphone to cut a farewell speech that can be seen here.
What a fitting ending for a career for Sting. Ever since his arrival in AEW, who would have though Sting would be jumping off of barricades in his sixties. Having quality tag team matches with Darby Allin. But that is who Sting is. He is a professional. AEW saved his career and let him go out on his terms.
Thanks to AEW, everyone remembers The Icon Sting the right way. Not to take a shot at WWE, but Sting’s biggest fear was that they would ruin his character, and they did. AEW President Tony Khan saved Sting and allowed him to showcase himself differently.
What a career that spans generations. Thank You Sting from every one at Full Press Wrestling.
