AEW Dynamite Results: February 10, 2021
A.K.A. The One With Darby In A Body Bag
Results:
- Darby Allin (c) def. Joey Janela to retain the AEW TNT Championship
- Lee Johnson & Cody Rhodes def. Cesar Bonini & Peter Avalon
- PAC def. Ryan Nemeth
- Chris Jericho & MJF def. The Acclaimed
- Thunder Rosa def. Leyla Hirsch in a Women’s World Championship #1 Contenders First Round Match
- Kenny Omega & KENTA def. Lance Archer & Jon Moxley in an Unsanctioned Falls Count Anywhere Match
The Main Event: Carnage
Our first look at KENTA in AEW came in an Unsanctioned main event tag match. He and AEW Champion Kenny Omega took it to Jon Moxley and Lance Archer. This match was chaos, and definitely took advantage of the Falls Count Anywhere stipulation. They even brawled into the kitchen.
Falls can count ANYWHERE including the kitchen!

At one point KENTA hit a stage dive double stomp that I think was meant to break the table. Instead the table remained, leading to a stiff bump for Moxley.
.@KENTAG2S dives off the stage!

It was the numbers game that would give the win to Omega & KENTA. The Good Brothers got involved and Archer succumbed to a One-Winged Angel for the victory. For our first taste of KENTA in AEW, it left me wanting more.
The Undercard:
Sammy Guevara has quit the Inner Circle. After being suspicious of MJF’s motives in the group for months, Guevara finally quit this week. MJF was trying to record Sammy earlier to use his words against him and undermine him in the group. Sammy cut him off at the pass, and is no longer in the Inner Circle. How will Sammy operate as a babyface against his old running mates?
.@SammyGuevara has had enough! HE HAS QUIT THE INNER CIRCLE!

Lee Johnson had a coming out party in his tag match with Cody Rhodes. He was the focal point of the team, not Cody. It was actually Lee’s first win in AEW, and it was celebrated by an official contract to be part of AEW. Big ups to Lee for his hard work.
In April most of the roster couldn’t travel & we needed local talent for #AEWDynamite. @CodyRhodes recommended his pupil @BigShottyLee. Lee came & worked so hard. I was blown away & kept booking him. With Cody’s guidance Lee got his 1st win tonight! Congrats Lee now it’s official pic.twitter.com/hnINnF5Iep

The Women’s Championship #1 Contender Eliminator started off with a bang on the USA side of the bracket. Thunder Rosa, a favorite to win this side of the bracket, took out Leyla Hirsch in a first round match. Rosa has a date with either Serena Deeb or Riho in the next round.
.@thunderrosa22 continues her attack onto @LegitLeyla!

Darby Allin successfully defended his TNT Championship against Joey Janela in the opener. Unfortunately that was not his only appearance on the night. Team Taz decided to jump Allin backstage, put him in a body bag, and drag him behind an SUV. This man truly will take any bump imaginable.
Has #TeamTaz taken things too far?

Next week we’ll be getting an AEW Tag Team Title match. The Young Bucks confirmed they’ll defend against Santana & Ortiz. Could Proud-N-Powerful bring the tag belts to The Inner Circle?
NEXT WEEK The @YoungBucks put their #AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line against top contenders @Santana_Proud & @Ortiz_Powerful.

Grade: A-
This grade may be reflective of the amount of fun the main event was. All four men killed it, and the addition of a New Japan partnership opens up so many opportunities for AEW booking. Moxley is still a star without the title, something I feared wouldn’t be the case. The women’s tournament match and both tag matches were really fun as well. Overall another quality show as we build to Revolution.
