Tuesday night, October 10th, was a jam-packed night on the sports calendar. The NHL returned. There were MLB Playoffs. But that is not what took center stage. It was the Tuesday Night Wrestling War as it was NXT vs AEW. And boy what a fun night. Especially if you were a wrestling fan. Regardless of what side you were on. Hopefully, both, because the only winner of the Tuesday Night Wrestling War was the fans.
NXT and AEW both loaded up their shows. WWE, more so because who would have ever thought we see Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Paul Heyman, and the Undertaker on NXT? LA Knight was there as well, but he was there before. Still Great to see him.
Then, on AEW, it was “Title Tuesday” as Tony Khan had to move AEW Dynamite from Wednesday to Tuesday because of the MLB Playoffs. We had the debut match of Adam Copeland in AEW. We also saw Swerve Strickland versus Bryan Danielson, the AEW International Title was on the line. Along with the AEW Women’s Title, Chris Jericho was in action and Jay White took on Juice Robinson.
Talk about spectacular lineups on both shows. It was a wrestling fan’s dream. And you knew you were watching, right? It felt like it was the mid-1990s again when WCW was a real threat to WWE, WWF at the time. But there was little internet. No tablets to watch stuff on. You had to switch back and forth on your television. Maybe if you were lucky, you set up another TV. But still, most did not. That is what made it so much fun during the Attitude Era and the Monday Night Wars.
And we got that again, just for one night. Now, let’s be honest, we had from when AEW Dynamite debuted in 2019 through about 2021 or early 2022. When it was NXT vs AEW head-to-head, it was excellent. Everyone wanted to see the numbers from the Wednesday Night Wars shows. For the most part, AEW beat NXT in the ratings. Though there were times NXT won the viewership number because it was a loaded show. As was the case this week. But as the case is today, back then, the wrestling fan was the winner.

People were invested in wrestling, and let’s be honest, the numbers showed, especially during the pandemic. Because there was nothing else on TV outside of the news. And people love to escape the real world, so wrestling was their outlet.
And if you look at the numbers, NXT was loaded with WWE main roster talent and nostalgia, which always sells, the show was viewed by 921,000 people and did a. 30 in the 18-49 demo. AEW with its wrestler roster and no surprises or announcements did 609,000 and a .26 in the 18-49 demo. Mind you, this is a Tuesday night, and this is only a little bit below the demo from last week.
But the total viewership for wrestling was 1.530 million people. That is awesome because the wrestling fans won the night. There are bragging rights for WWE sure. Oh NXT beat AEW. Remember when AEW beat NXT all those years, WWE referred to it as the third brand or the developmental brand. But yet when push came to shove they were in competition with AEW. Thus they loaded up the card. Let’s see what the numbers would have been without these names.
But again, the wrestling fan was the true winner on the night. There was something for everyone. AEW Dynamite provided what it does best great wrestling. WWE on NXT provided what it does best: entertainment. And in the end, the fans win because we were all entertained on a Tuesday night in October. And it left you wanting more. It left you wanting to see these AEW vs NXT head-to-head again.
And that is what competition is all about. So remember, there is something for everyone out there, like what you want to like. Watch what you want to watch because, in the end, the business of pro wrestling is in a good state and that means the wrestling fans win in the end.
