AEW WrestleDream Betting Odds: Danielson vs Sabre Jr.

It feels like AEW just had a PPV with ALL Out in Chicago and ALL In in Wembley Stadium. Those were in a back-to-back stretch. Tony Khan is coming off a successful AEW Dynamite Grand Slam in New York. Now, the company is getting ready to head to Seattle, Washington — the home of Bryan Danielson and Swerve Strickland — to honor one of the greats of professional wrestling, Antonio Inoki.

WrestleDream is a collaboration of AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling, similar to the Forbidden Door PPV we saw in June. The event takes place on Sunday, October 1st, which will mark the one-year anniversary of the Japanese hero’s passing.

The company has moved on from the debacle that was CM Punk coming out of ALL IN and ALL OUT as many have stated. There are a lot of positives heading into this event. Again, regardless of what you think of the build. AEW knows how to deliver a PPV and you know this will be a good show.

But with only a few days left before AEW WrestleDream, let’s take a look at some of the betting favourites that are expected to emerge victorious in the night’s biggest bouts.

• Bryan Danielson (-500) vs. Zach Sabre Jr. (+300)

The dream match-up of the century between two of the best professional wrestlers in the world will most likely be the main event of this show. This matchup was supposed to take place at the first Forbidden Door before Danielson got hurt. These two men had epic promos to set up this match. Danielson called out Zach Sabre Jr. on an episode of Collision. There, Danielson talked about getting close to the end of his career, but he wanted this match. ZSJ accepted the match and can’t wait to fight to find out who is the best wrestler in the world; he just wants the fragile Danielson to get there.

• Hangman Adam Page (+220 vs. Swerve Strickland (-280)

This match is truly a grudge match between two men who have been building something over the last couple of weeks on Dynamite. Swerve called out Adam Page for all the opportunities he has gotten and has come up short. Swerve is doing such great work as a heel. Each week he is getting under the skin of the Hangman. Adam Page called Swerve out for not being able to handle his own battles, but Swerve wanted to do it on his terms and his terms were in Washington. These two should put on a great match.

• TBS Championship: Kris Statlander (c) (-1000) vs. Julia Hart (+500)

Kris Statlander and Julia Hart will be a good match. Hart is the number one contender after her winning streak continued. She had her sights on the champion after Statlander defeated Jade Cargill on an episode of Rampage before Jade left for WWE. Though Hart has come a long way as a wrestler, expect the champion to retain.

• TNT Championship 2 out of 3 Falls: Christian Cage (c) (+120) vs. Darby Allin (-160)

Darby Allin won the Royal Rampage Battle Royal to earn a shot at the TNT title. Allin has made comments about how the title needs meaning again. Darby has been one of the best TNT champions in the past. Though Luchasaurus is the champion, Christian Cage is walking around with the title. This will be a fun match as Darby can work that big-small guy match. Though he is the underdog, take the upset and a new champion here.

• AEW World Tag Team Titles: FTR (c) (-1000) vs. Aussie Open (+500)

We know how much tag team wrestling sells. FTR is having open challenges each week on Collision. But now they have a rematch with Aussie Open, the team FTR beat last year when they were collecting all the titles during the best run of their careers. Aussie Open has done great work in AEW and called out the champs after FTR made light work of a team on Collision. Aussie Open said FTR needs to fight a real team. FTR should retain here, but Aussie Open will be champions soon.

• ROH World Tag Team Championship Match: MJF & Adam Cole (c) (-2000) vs. The Righteous (+700)

Okay, we all love what MJF and Adam Cole are doing storyline-wise. However, Cole has a serious injury that he suffered at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam and needs surgery. MJF will defend the titles in a handicap match against the Righteous. Great promos by both teams this week on Dynamite. It feels like AEW wants to keep these guys together, but it makes sense for MJF to do the work right now. Awful tough to defend the belts in a handicap match, but you have to think he finds a way to retain them.

• Young Bucks (-140) vs. Lucha Bros (+250) vs. The Gunns (+250) vs. Orange Cassidy & Hook (+900) – Winner To Get AEW World Tag Team Title Shot 

We have a number one contenders match for the AEW World Tag Team Titles. This will be a fun match featuring three great tag teams and the former AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy and FTW Champion Hook. We know the history of the Bucks, Gunns, and Lucha Brothers have a history with FTR. Most recently, we saw FTR beat the Young Bucks at All-In. Is there a rematch at Full Gear coming? Maybe. But who knows? Bucks are favored but we can see any of these teams winning.

• Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi (+200) vs. Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Sammy Guevara, and Will Ospreay) (-300) 

Don Callis took two enemies — Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega — and turned them into tag team partners. Callis gave them a common enemy in him. Not to mention, the Don Callis Family has been a thorn in the side of both men this past summer and they also have their sights on Ibushi. Takeshita has two wins over Omega in a one-week span, becoming the Alpha. Will Ospreay is back in AEW to join Takeshita and Sammy Guevara, the newest member after turning on Jericho. This will be a fun trios match; expect the heels to win.

• NJPW Openweight and ROH World Championship Match: Eddie Kingston (c) (-1000) vs. Katsuyori Shibata (+500)

Eddie Kingston overcame his demon of Claudio Castagnoli, winning the ROH World Title at the AEW Grand Slam. Kingston is a double champion and wants to honor Antonio Inoki. He wants to fight a man who represents that strong style in the ROH Pure Champion Katsuyori Shibata. This will be a hard-hitting match. We expect the double champion to retain as Shibata is the Pure Champion.

• Ricky Starks vs. Wheeler Yuta – No Odds at this time 

This will be a technical wrestling classic. Starks and Yuta had some history coming out of AEW Collision and the Texas Death Match with Starks and Danielson. Yuta threw Ricky aside and he tried to apologize for that and shake hands, but Starks had none of that. The two got into a verbal exchange with Yuta issuing the challenge and Tony Khan making it official. Should be a fun one. Got to think Starks wins here.
