Welcome to the wrestling roundup where we look at the biggest stories from the past week or weekend in wrestling. In the wrestling roundup, we will not only look at the news but rumours as well. Again, fans love speculating on rumours. And all the rumours will be cited from credible sources in the wrestling world. Remember, with rumors, none of them have been confirmed. With that said let’s dive into this edition of the wrestling roundup looking at the future of Bryan Danielson, the first match for WrestleDream is announced, Royal Rumble 2024 Location, WWE TV Deals, and a wrestler returns.
Wrestling Roundup: Bryan Danielson, Royal Rumble 2024
AEW News: Bryan Danielson’s Future
During the latest episode of AEW Collision, Bryan Danielson made comments about winding down his wrestling career and promised his daughter when she turned seven that he would call it a career. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Danielson clarified his comments, and that means potentially “closing up shop” next summer.

“In my mind, it’s around August of next year,” Danielson said. “My daughter will say, ‘Daddy, are you going to be done wrestling when I turn seven?’ And I’ll respond, ‘Well, not exactly when you turn seven, but I’ll be on the home stretch.’”
Though Danielson will never truly retire from in-ring competition because Terry Funk is his idol, and Funk never truly retired. He will wrestle from time to time maybe it will be years or when AEW needs him to wrestle in a big event. Danielson wants to wrestle at All-In next year as he missed it this year.
AEW News: WrestleDream Gets Its First Match
On the latest episode of AEW Collision, Bryan Danielson called out Zach Sabre Jr. for WrestleDream. WrestleDream is taking place on October 1st, in Seattle, Washington. That is the home of Danielson. Sabre Jr. and Danielson were supposed to fight at the first Forbidden Door, but that did not happen instead, two of the best wrestlers in the world will do battle in Seattle. This will be a must-watch match.

WWE News: Royal Rumble 2024 Heading To Tampa
WWE announced a day after Endeavor officially announced TKO Group Holdings, as WWE is no longer owned by Vince McMahon, but he still runs the show, Royal Rumble 2024 is heading to Tampa. The 2024 Royal Rumble will be held at Tropicana Field.
Tampa Bay is set to host the 37th #RoyalRumble on Jan. 27, 2024!
— WWE (@WWE) September 13, 2023
Press Release: WWE will head to town for an entire weekend of events across St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa, Fla., highlighted by the Royal Rumble on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. Two days later, Monday Night Raw will emanate from Amalie Arena in Tampa on Jan. 29. This marks the first time that Royal Rumble will be held in Tampa Bay in front of fans since 1995.
“Tampa Bay has long been a terrific market for WWE,” said WWE Executive Vice President of Live Events John Porco. “Thanks to our partners at the Tampa Bay Rays, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, we look forward to a fantastic schedule of events in January.”
WWE News: Smackdown Could Head To Disney or Amazon
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio mentioned that Fox will not pay for the rights for Smackdown. WWE is asking for $300 million for Smackdown and that is a number FOX is not willing to pay to keep one of the number shows on network television. Meltzer believes that Disney and Amazon are the two companies most in contention for it. He is not sure it stays on Friday Nights because of the ad revenue Shark Tank gets on Fridays.
Thus, WWE is not married to having Smackdown on Friday Nights and is open to moving it to whatever night the new rights holder says it is. Remember it was Tuesday, it was Thursday, and Fox decided it was Friday. If Disney does get it could move to FX, but again, where it will be televised is truly up to the new company.
Meltzer speculates that Raw and NXT will remain on USA, and WWE could get $700 million for those shows.
WWE News: Nia Jax Returns to WWE
After a surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble, Nia Jax made her official return this past week on Raw to close the show. Jax attacked Women’s World Heavyweight Champion Rhea Ripley.
