On this past episode of Monday Night Raw, it was announced that Triple H would be making an announcement. Triple H announced WWE created a new WWE Championship with the winner being crowned at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.
First off the decision to crown a new champion in another country is disrespectful to the fans. Especially those in America who watch the product all the time and where the majority of the events are held. Secondly, the fact that WWE has to create a new Championship belt to put on a show shows that WWE made the wrong decision at Wrestlemania 39 by having Roman Reigns defeat Cody Rhodes for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.
That is another thing, Roman Reigns hold the Undisputed title. It shows that the word “Undisputed” does not mean anything with the creation of the title. WWE wants Reigns title run to be longer than ever. If he was not dropping the title to Cody, who was he going to drop it to?
During Triple H’s announcement, he stated about wanting to have a fighting champion and a champion that showed up every week. Well, we know Roman’s schedule and he works limited shows. He is never on Raw and shows up when he wants to on Smackdown. While he is the hottest thing going, so too is Cody. With house shows across the board along with merchandise sales thanks to Cody Rhodes, having a new belt and one champion with Rhodes as champion makes the most sense.
And for his story to make sense he needs to beat Roman for the Undisputed Universal Championship not win this new WWE Championship.

With the announcement of the new title, it shows as previously mentioned they do not want Roman Reigns to lose. And it is a shame because these streaks are artificial. The numbers do not mean anything anymore. On top of that, the champion will be viewed as a loser. Not to mention the title itself is a participation trophy for not beating the actual champion. Oh yeah, we are also disregarding the fact that Roman’s title reign will not feel as special with the creation of this new World Championship.
Who wants to win a belt that was not earned? The concept of one title is great, but whoever wins it is viewed differently. Hey sorry, you couldn’t beat Reigns so here is a title. Like who wants that? Just have Reigns lose to Cody Rhodes or someone else so the title has meaning again.
Having a new belt design is great, but the effect would have been better if it was unveiled at Wrestlemania when Cody should have beaten Roman. Instead, it is viewed as a participation trophy. That is because WWE decided Roman Reigns should not be pinned for a very long time.
And here we are as the creative stalled. This is not like 2002 when Brock Lesnar decided to keep the WWE Championship on Smackdown and Triple H was given the World Heavyweight Title on Raw. Different scenario completely.
Titles and streaks should have meaning. This new title has neither.
