What a moment on Saturday to close out Night 1 of Wrestlemania 39 as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens defeated The Usos to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles.
The two good Canadian boys from Montreal, came up in the business together starting their careers just outside where Wrestlemania 39 was held in California. Zayn and Owens honed their craft throughout the indies with PWG and Ring of Honor before hitting it big when they both went to NXT to work for WWE.
This moment at the end of Wrestlemania 39 was a long time coming. Owens and Zayn were great professional wrestlers, but it felt like the company was never on board. Even though Kevin Owens won the Universal Title, it felt that something was missing. But Saturday night was the culmination of all their hard work together showing they can be main event performers.
It was announced during the pre-show of Wrestlemania 39 that Zayn and Ownes were going to main event the show with the Usos. Not to say that Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair were not deserving of the spot, but anything following this match was going to lose the audience and not give these wrestlers their just dos when it came to a reaction. Not to mention the Bloodline storyline involving Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has been the best thing going in all of pro wrestling this year.

This match was storytelling at its finest. All four men knew exactly how to sell the moves not to mention the near falls. The reaction from the wrestlers drove the reaction from the crowd. There were times in the match fans thought the Usos were going to keep the titles. Most figured Sami and Kevin were going to win, but then again with WWE you never know.
However, in the end, WWE got it right with their decision to give Owens and Zayn the titles. This was one of the best matches of the night. But it was the only way to close out Wrestlemania 39.
The Usos did their part as well. They showed they can carry a main event even if it is for the tag team titles. When was the last time a tag team title match main event Wrestlemania or even a PPV in general? Given how hard the Usos have worked in the business, this was an excellent finish to a great show.
The crowd was into everything Zayn and Owens did. Though it was a crowning moment for both men, it felt like the moment belonged to Sami Zayn. Remember at Elimination Chamber, Zayn had a chance to win the Universal Title in his hometown of Montreal. Many thought WWE missed an opportunity with the pop. Those people were wrong. The pop was huge for Owens and Zayn at the end of the night. Especially with Zayn pinning Jey Uso to win the titles.
Both men soaked in the celebration hugging and high-fiving the audience. In the media scrum, Owens thanked Mark and Jay Briscoe for helping them in their careers. Owens hoped they made the Briscoes proud especially with Jay Briscoe passing away a little over a month ago.
Wrestlemania Night 1 was excellent. A perfect main event with a perfect ending to a great storyline.
Let’s see where this goes as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are now the new Tag Team Champions.
