It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for AEW Dynamite are out. It was a new era in AEW with a whole new look and design for 2023 as the show headed to the great Northwest. Championship matches headlined the show with the main event being the TNT title. Let’s dive into the ratings and see how the show did.
AEW Dynamite Ratings Down Again
It was a new look for a new era of AEW Dynamite on the January 4th, 2023 edition of the show in Seattle, WA. It was a jam-packed show as Tony Khan always likes to start the year off with a bang. Multiple championship matches were on the card along with some hometown boys.
The January 4th edition of AEW Dynamite week’s show was viewed by 864,000 people and did a .26 in the 18-49 demo.
AEW Dynamite last night on TBS (8-10pm):
864,000 viewers
P18-49 rating: 0.26
#4 cable original in P18-49

You expected this number to be higher than last week. But in fact, it was lower than last week. And for the second week in a row, AEW Dynamite Ratings dropped. This was an excellent card. Maybe the star power wasn’t there, but considering the show, last year was over a million viewers this is disappointing. But the numbers are better than regular programming on TBS and TNT.
Both the demo and viewership numbers dropped as previously mentioned from the previous week. The only competition on TV was NBA as AEW Dynamite finished fourth on cable according to Showbuzzdaily.com. It is another top-five finish on the cable chart, but AEW has to get their numbers back up.
Show Recaps
The show opened with a new look, but with a familiar face as Chris Jericho took on Ricky Starks. This was a very good match to open the show. Jericho controlled the pace, but Starks fought through it all like the underdog he is. Constant interference by the Jericho Appreciation Society. Starks matched the charisma of Jericho with his top rope walk. He fought out of the Walls of Jericho and got the win over Jericho. Post-match, the JAS came down to beat down Starks before Action Andretti made the save. However, like always following a loss Jericho stood tall as Hager put Starks through a table.
Following that we got an update from Hangman Adam Page who said he will be ready to go next week to take on Jon Moxley. Both men cut great promos and this rivalry has gotten very very personal.
Following that we got the AEW Tag Team Titles match featuring the Acclaimed taking on Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. Max Caster double-downed on his rap from the previous week taking shots at Karen Jarrett and TNA. We all know what happened after what Caster did with the video last week. Entertaining match between these two teams. After Sonjay and Satnam got tossed, Jarrett hit The Stroke on Anthony Bowens. Bowens had his foot on the ropes before Sonjay shoved it off. The false finish was fun and Bowens rolled up Lethal for the win. This is leading to a NO DQ match for the titles on Battle of the Belts.
Bryan Danielson and Tony Nese were next on the card. Of course, Danielson is going over being from Aberdeen, Washington. Fun match as Danielson got the win with the LeBell lock. Post-match is when things got fun when MJF came out. Danielson and MJF cut great promos back and forth and it led to them setting up a match at Revolution. If Danielson can be undefeated up until February 8th, he will get MJF at Revolution on March 5th, in an Iron-man Match. We got Disco Inferno, Lance Storm, Eric Bischoff, and Dean Malenko references by MJF.

Swerve Strickland and AR Fox had a great match. There is a history between these two wrestlers and they worked well in the ring together. Strickland is going through his past with his Mogul Affiliates after taking Keith Lee two weeks ago. Swerve does not need these guys but they are great heaters for him. Swerve is getting a push.
Earlier in the night we got an interview from Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker talking about them being the faces of the division and being there from the start. They put little eggs out about Mercedes Mone possibly coming in. Then Saraya, Shida, and Toni Storm had an interview where Saraya announced Toni Storm as her partner for next week. Feels like something else is coming here because why not announce this earlier? AEW has been hyping it for weeks. There is dissension in the badies with Jade Cargill and Red Velvet.
The TNT Title match was the main event. It was a good one between Samoa Joe and Darby Allin. Allin won the title for a second time in his hometown, which was to be expected. He also got his win back after losing a couple of weeks ago to Joe. Samoa Joe is not hurt in any way by this loss, but look how Tony Khan got his pillars carrying the company again.
That was the show.
