It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for AEW Dynamite are out. The annual Winter Is Coming show happened last night headlined by the AEW World Title Match featuring MJF and Ricky Starks. Time to dive in and see what the ratings were.
AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming Ratings
The road to Winter Is Coming is on at AEW Dynamite was live from Garland, TX. As previously mentioned it was the Winter Is Coming show. It was built around the best of seven series for the trios titles as well as the main event for the AEW World Title and the Dynamite Diamond Ring.
The December 14th edition of AEW Dynamite week’s show was viewed by 950,000 people and did a .33 in the 18-49 demo.
After a couple of weeks of numbers in the 800k rang, AEW Dynamite was back in its normal range. This is a good thing as this was a big show for AEW. Winter is Coming has always done well, but now it was MJF’s time to shine in the main event. Also helped to have the Elite and Chris Jericho on the show. But it was all about the World Title and MJF is a draw.
This was a simple and good show bookended by two excellent matches. This crowd was excellent as well. Both the viewership and demo were up from the previous week. This was the best viewership number since October. And it is the best 18-49 demo since November 23rd.
It was a light schedule on the sports schedule and that means not much competition. And that is a good thing for AEW and it showed with the numbers. According to Showbuzzdaily.com AEW Dynamite was third on cable behind two NBA games.
Show Recaps
The show opened with the best of seven series between The Elite and Death Triangle for AEW World Trios Titles. It was match four in the series as the Elite looked to level the series and Death Triangle looked to get a stranglehold on the series. This was a good match. Different than the others. Nick Jackson was injured in the match with his ankle, he hobbled to the back as Matt and Kenny Omega took on Pac, Fenix, and Penta by themselves. They put up a good effort and Nick returned. Ultimately, his injury was too much to overcome as Penta used the hammer on his injured ankle. Nick was forced to submit as Fenix applied a knee bar.
Death Triangle went up 3-1 in the series and Kenny Omega took to the mic. Omega was tired of the cheating that was going on in these matches so he issued the challenge that Match 5 be a no-disqualification match. This led to Tony Khan announcing the stipulations for each of the next matches. Match 5: No DQ. Match 6 would be Falls Count Anywhere and if there is a Match 7 it would be a Ladder Match. (Folks we are getting to match 7).
The main event was MJF vs Ricky Starks for both the AEW World Title and Dynamite Diamond Ring. Earlier in the program, both men cut excellent promos on the other man. If you weren’t ready for the match, these guys got you ready for it. Starks came out to a thunderous ovation before MJF’s music cut him out as he made his way down to the ring to boos. This match was solid it had an old-school wrestling feel. Though Starks got close to winning, he was never going to. As MJF says, the Devil always finds a way to win. He used a low blow to get the pinfall and retain all the gold.
As MJF was leaving Bryan Danielson’s music hit and he ran off MJF through the crowd. Danielson wants a piece of MJF after what he did to William Regal.

The rest of the show was solid. Chris Jericho was in action after losing the title to Claudio Claudio Castagnoli on Saturday. Jericho was looking for an easy night similar to what the House of Black had. Those guys were reintroduced the right way. However, Jericho was not so lucky. Action Andretti put up a good fight as the crowd was behind him. They were chants of “Let’s Go Jobber” and the crowd popped huge for him. Interestingly enough prior to the match, Jericho wants Daniel Garcia to learn under Sammy Guevara now.
Tay Melo and Ruby Soho had a decent match. Soho got the win but after the match, Ana JAS showed up and hit her finisher right on Soho’s repaired nose. This was a good storyline that had a place on the show. In addition, AEW continues to pull out all the stops for AEW Rampage booking top talent on the show. Jon Moxley cut a promo on the Jericho Appreciation Society saying it would be over on Rampage. In addition, FTR cut a promo on the Gunn Club as they set up a match for next week. Also, the Acclaimed was attacked by Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal as this is the next program for the AEW World Tag Team champs
That was the show.
