It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for AEW Dynamite are out. Everything was back on track after the holiday. Tony Khan was building to ROH Final Battle on Saturday but Winter Is Coming next week so there was a lot to get too. Let’s see how the show did.

The last couple of weeks for AEW Dynamite have not been the greatest. Viewership is down under their normal standards especially if you look at year-to-year numbers. However, they are still performing better than other programming on the station. But you have to wonder about the booking of these shows recently.
Crowds make a difference and this crowd was hot. More responsive to things. After a disappointing week, more disappointment for the AEW Dynamite fans. Viewership was down again. In addition, the 18-49 demo that went up to its normal level two weeks ago didn’t drop any further from last week. Still, this is concerning for a product that was averaging over 900,000 viewers consistently.
It feels like AEW is going backwards as these numbers are similar to what the viewership numbers were during the pandemic. And even those numbers were higher. While it is concerning on the service, network executives are not too concerned just yet. As the demo was third on cable behind two NBA games according to Showbuzzdaily.com.
Show Recap
The show kicked off with the Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royal. The only difference this year was the winner could face MJF for the ring anytime they wanted. The big storyline in this match was Ethan Page and Ricky Starks. Starks in a promo from the previous week said he was coming for everything he had. It was a fun match. Lots of cool spots including Dalton Castle and the Boys. Matt Hardy was doing Page’s dirty work for him. Until the end when Hardy got eliminated by Starks and as Page was eliminating Starks, Starks held on and won. Before his music could hit MJF hit the ring.
MJF and Starks had an excellent fire promo, especially from Starks. MJF was his condensing self as he normally is. He called Starks a wannabe Rock, calling him the Pebble. But it was Starks that had a great rebuttal for MJF. After being insulted for working on Youtube with the NWA, Starks said that is where he busted his ass. He told MJF that all he does is run from his responsibilities. Took shots from when he skipped out on his autograph signing. Starks was fire and ended by saying he is going to take the responsibility off your plate little boy. MJF kicked him in the balls for more heat. Next week Winner Take All AEW World Title and Dynamite Diamond Ring at Winter Is Coming.

The main event saw FTR take on The Acclaimed for the AEW World Tag Team Titles. Tony Khan backed himself into a corner in this one. Both teams worked well together. Though there wasn’t much build to this match. It delivered in the main event spot. This was a fun match with a lot of back and forth. FTR is the most decorated tag team in the business right now. Acclaimed as the most over-tag team right now. Lots of near falls and great counters in the match. Each team got their spots in. The Acclaimed got the win, but all fans won in this match.
Following the match, the Gunn Club sent a message from the Dem Boys (Briscoe Bros) to FTR for a Double Dog Collar Match at Final Battle. FTR is on a heater and such a great run right now, it feels like they should have all the gold.
The rest of the show was good. Samoa Joe defended the TNT title against Darby Allin in a good match. Darby sold on every spot. He took it to Joe, but in the end, Joe got the win. Wardlow made the save after Joe continued his beatdown on Darby following the match. Blackpool Combat Club and Jericho Appreciation Society had a fun tag team match as their feud continued. Moxley stated he was BCC through and through. William Regal had a pretaped interview explaining his actions. It feels like a turn for someone is coming here and the BCC is coming to an end.
That was the show.
