AEW News: William Regal Departing For WWE
There is growing speculation that William Regal is done with AEW and heading back to WWE to work with Triple H. That speculation grew even bigger after what happened on AEW Dynamite on Wednesday when newly crowned AEW World Champion MJF turned on Regal. MJF hit Regal in the back of the neck/head with brass knuckles. The same brass knuckles he used to win the AEW World Title.
According to Mike Johnson of PW Insider: “All signs are that William Regal, 54, will be World Wrestling Entertainment-bound shortly. Although we have heard nothing official from the company, there have been rumblings within WWE of late about Regal returning to a backstage role. That would mean Regal would be exiting AEW, where it certainly appeared that he was written out of storylines last night on Dynamite, having been attacked by AEW Champion MJF.”
Triple H has made no bones about it that he would love to have Regal back in WWE. Regal was a major part of NXT as their general manager. And it seems Triple H is bringing back a lot of the guys that were fired. Although Regal has fit in nicely with AEW as the mentor to Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley as the leader of the Blackpool Combat Club.
Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Live said that Regal signed a three-year deal. There are reports it was only a one-year deal with a two-year option. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com wrote on Twitter, “I heard Regal’s deal is up in December.” There is a lot going on with this situation and the angle on Dynamite was just an angle, but things are turning where Regal could be on his way out. But we will see.

AEW News: CM Punk Remains With AEW
Earlier in the week, AEW talent Stokely Hathaway was on Sessions with Renee Paquette Podcast and was speaking about the status of CM Punk. Hathaway was excited to work with Punk, but all those plans went out the window when CM Punk got hurt and then suspended for the backstage fight.
“Everything that was supposed to happen with The Firm did not happen…what happened immediately after [All Out was] a huge part of it.”
“Who we were supposed to directly feud with is no longer in the company. That was one thing that I was looking forward to ‘cause I was hand-chosen for that role. So I’m just gonna say it. I don’t know the specifics… for me, the fact that CM Punk said, ‘Hey, I want to work with this guy,’ holds a lot of weight. It means a lot, regardless of what has happened, and what will happen. And that didn’t happen anymore. It was literally rewriting everything on the fly. So everyone in the group is trying to do their best, but we are trying to figure out how to make this work because the original purpose isn’t the purpose anymore, so it’s like, what do you do?”
As we know CM Punk was stripped of the AEW World title and suspended. We also know Punk was hurt as well in the match with Moxley. And you could clearly see things changing on television. But despite with Hathaway said, CM Punk is still with AEW.
However, according to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, CM Punk is still under contract by AEW and getting paid. His sources also indicated that the hold-up on his release was not on Punk’s side of things it was on the AEW side of things and Punk is ready and willing to move on to his next project.”
Despite all the little shots and digs the Elite did in Chicago, there is no chance of Punk and the Elite having a match and a storyline according to Meltzer. However, in the wrestling industry, you never say never. CM Punk will also be in the AEW Fight Forever Game.
AEW News: Hangman Adam Page Returned
On the November 30th edition of AEW Dynamite, Hangman Adam Page returned for the first time since being knocked out during a match against Jon Moxley several weeks ago for the AEW World Title. It was unclear when Page was going to return from a concussion and being knocked out in a match. Considering what is going on with Adam Cole and his absence from TV due to a concussion, AEW usually takes the cautious road regarding injuries. That is why it was a shock to see Page return to TV.
Now, he was in Indianapolis for treatment and getting cleared by doctors to wrestle again. It is unclear when or if Page is cleared, but he came down to the ring with the purpose on Wednesday night. After Moxley called out the locker room saying there was no one man enough to confront him, there was Hangman Adam Page walking down the ramp. The two got face to face as Moxley reminded him what happened last time these two were in the ring and the fight was on. Page did not take many punches, but the fact he was out there means he is getting closer to returning than not.
