The outcome was never in doubt. Everyone knew it was time for MJF to win the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley. He was the hottest wrestler in the company after he came back at ALL Out. It was just a matter of how he was going to win.
There was so much speculation surrounding the final outcome of the match and how MJF was going to win the title. Was MJF actually going to win clean as he said he was going to do? Or was he going to cheat to win the most prestigious title in all of professional wrestling?
Well, towards the end of the match, MJF reached into his trunks and pulled out the Dynamite Diamond Ring. His weapon of choice. Throughout his time in AEW, that is how MJF has won numerous matches with that diamond ring. However, William Regal came down the ramp and continuously shouted in Max’s ear about doing things the right way.
That had been part of the storyline for weeks now after Regal and MJF had their confrontation in the ring. Regal was in MJF’s head or at least he made us believe he was in his head. Throughout this storyline, MJF has continued to utter the line “the greatest trick the Devil ever played was convincing the world he did not exist.” It was a line he uttered in his feud with CM Punk and now Moxley.
MJF likes to call himself the Devil. But maybe he was talking about someone else when it came to this storyline. Because as we found out in the lead-up, he and Regal had an interesting backstory. And that backstory played out Saturday night in Newark, NJ in the AEW World title match.
With the referee down, MJF and Regal continued their spat as MJF threw the ring at Regal and spit in his face. Moxley was able to get MJF in the bulldog choke, but there was a second referee bump knocking both men down. With the first referee coming to his senses, Regal slipped MJF brass knuckles. Max used to the knuckles hitting Moxley right between the eyes.
The man who founded the Blackpool Combat Club just turned his back on the man who carried the company for six months as champion. Not to mention through all the nonsense that went on after All Out involving The Elite and CM Punk. But just like that Regal who said he never hit anyone with a ring and he only needed knuckles, made sure MJF did what was necessary to win the AEW World Championship.
To be honest, this was not shocking, to say the least. The way everything was set up on this past week’s Dynamite, something was going to happen. Either MJF made everyone believe the Firm had really turned on him and they would assist at Full Gear or Regal was going to turn on Moxley. The latter happened to allow MJF to win the AEW World Championship.
MJF is so over right now. The crowd was really into him. They popped when he made his entrance and popped even louder when he won the title. This was a long time coming. Regardless of who the champion was Moxley or Punk (if he had stayed and all that stuff didn’t go down), MJF was walking out of Full Gear with the title. The question will be who will be his first challenger Ricky Starks or Ethan Page?
MJF is so hot right now this was absolutely the right call. Now Moxley can take a break and relax before he has his rematch with the Devil himself.
Rest of the Card:
The Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks) their long-awaited return. The Newark crowd gave them a great reaction when they took on Death Triangle for the AEW Trios Titles. This was a great match. Again AEW knows how to do these trios matches. Rey Fenix used the hammer and Death Triangle retained the titles in a great fun match that was second on the card. It was announced later that it is a best-of-seven series for the titles. The next match is this Wednesday on Dynamite.
Jamie Hayter got a great reaction from the crowd. They were into her and wanted to see her win the title against Toni Storm. This match overdeliverered. Storm and Hayter had great chemistry. Hayter won the Interim women’s title from Storm. Just an excellent match.

The Four Way for the ROH World Title between Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, Sammy Guevara, and Claudio Castagnoli was fun as well. Probably the second-best match on the night behind trios titles. These four guys know how to work. We saw dissension between Jericho and Sammy, which was going to happen. Claudio and Danielson know each from the WWE days. All guys hit their spots. Sammy is nuts as he hit a long shooting star press.
The cage match between Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy Jack Perry was a great opener. Great storytelling in this one between two former best friends. Excellent finish to this storyline for now. We are still waiting for Christian Cage to be cleared so Jungle Boy can get his win back. Jack Perry hit a diving elbow off the top of the cage through a table. What a finish.
All night there were crazy bumps in and out of the ring. Especially on the apron of the ring. Sting/Darby Allin did some crazy things in their match against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. Sting dived off the barricade to the floor on Lethal. After he took a chokeslam, Sting was hurting, but Darby hit the coffin drop for the win. Also, Darby took a crazy guitar shot in the back as he did the coffin drop earlier in the match.

Samoa Joe now is a double champ as he won the TNT title in an entertaining three-way match with Powerhouse Hobbs and Wardlow.
The Acclaimed retained their tag team titles after Keith Lee walked out on Swerve, which all knew was coming. That will be a good feud moving forward. Hopefully, FTR can now enter the title picture.
Jade Cargill retained her TBS title and got her belt back.
