It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for Wednesday night AEW Dynamite are out. AEW went International for the first time in the company’s history as they were live in Toronto, ON, Canada. It was another packed show. Let’s see how they did.
AEW Dynamite Goes North of the Border
AEW went International for the first time in three years as the show was live in Toronto, ON, Canada. A Canadian crowd is always great and they were hot from the start. Canada was ready for AEW. It has been a long wait as these plans were put on hold because of the pandemic. The crowd was jacked up and ready for what AEW Dynamite was going to offer.
The October 12th edition of AEW Dynamite week’s show was viewed by 983,000 people and did a .32 in the 18-49 demo.
AEW Dynamite last night on TBS (8-10pm):

It was another strong performance this week as AEW Dynamite again. This is the second time in three weeks AEW slipped under a million viewers. That’s five of seven weeks over the million-viewer mark. It is a similar pattern AEW saw this time last year as seen below. This week’s number was telling as it was stronger than it was this time last year. AEW numbers took a big dip in the ratings. Even with a lot of competition on TV with MLB playoffs and NHL returning, AEW still had a good showing numbers wise. Both the viewership and demo were down from the previous week. The show was number four on cable according to Showbuzzdaily.com.
Show Recap
The show kicked off with AEW announcing their newest addition to their broadcast team Renee Paquette. The Toronto girl interviewed Christian Cage before the Luchasaurus/Jungle Boy Jack Perry match. This was a good match. Great table spot with Jack Perry and the big Dinosaur as Jungle Boy did a sunset flip powerbomb. Fun match between two best friends and partners that won the tag team titles to begin 2022. This storyline has continued even with Christian hurt and it has gotten better. Heels get the win and the story of Jungle Boy getting his revenge is on hold.
Then we had a squash segment with Wardlow and Samoa Joe beating up the Factory. After the match, FTR was called out by Brian Cage and the Embassy. FTR made their way down to the ring and Shawn Spears returned in his hometown as the Pinnacle minus MJF is back for a match on Rampage. Following that Billy Gunn took on Swerve Strickland. This was a good match. Daddy Ass is so over and the crowd with its Scissor Me Daddy chants is good stuff. Swerve got the win by cheating and then Smart Mark Sterling and Tony Neese came out as he announced he purchased the phrase Scissor Me. That was ok, as we head towards another rematch.
MJF cut a promo next being a tweener. At times a babyface and at times a heel. His promo was fantastic as he talked about not being happy with himself and always being the villain but that is what it takes to be a world champion. After that Jon Moxley cut an excellent promo leading to Hangman Adam Page delivering his best promo ever. Page gave vibes off like a guy who could actually win. With MJF in the luxury box holding the chip and laughing off everything these two guys have to say as we all know he is walking away with the title.

The Ring of Honor World Title match was next between Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson. Jericho was over in Canada as Danielson worked heel in the match. This was a solid match. Would you expect anything less? There was a ref bump that led to Daniel Garcia coming down to the ring to interfere and side with Jericho as he picked up another tainted victory. It appears the Jericho Appreciation Society is back together unless there is another swerve coming here as well.
We had a women’s tag team match next as Hikaru Shida and Toni Storm took on Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker. This was a solid match. All worked hard as Shida got the win for her team-leading to her getting a match next week on a Tuesday night Dynamite.
The Main event saw Pac taking on Orange Cassidy for the All-Atlantic Title. Great match to close the show. These two have great chemistry dating back to Revolution in 2020. This feud has been great. Pac has always overlooked Cassidy for his attitude and the way he comes out and sees him as nothing more than a comedy act. When Cassidy can wrestle lookout. He had a serious edge to him on Dynamite and picked up the win to win his first title in AEW.
