All Elite Wrestling is back in the news and not in a good way. After the whole CM Punk and Elite situation at ALL Out, the last thing this company needed was another backstage issue. However, on the three-year anniversary of AEW Dynamite, the news backstage takes center stage over the product on television. This time the backstage drama involves Sammy Guevara and Andrade.
According to TMZ.com first reported, Guevera and Andrade got into a backstage altercation. From what is known, there was some pushing back and forth, with Guevara and Andrade exchanging punches. Prior to the start of Dynamite, Tony Khan announced that Andrade’s match was Preston Vance aka 10 of Dark Order was cancelled for this Friday’s episode of Rampage. Andrade had been recruiting Vance for his stable, so it was set up as if Andrade won, Vance loses his mask. If Andrade lost, he could never wrestle for the company again. More on that later. Instead, Dark Order will be challenging Death Triangle for the Trios Titles.
Earlier in the week, Guevara and Andrade had a heated Twitter battle. This stems from an interview Andrade gave where he mentioned Guevara by name. Andrade said in the interview that he has issues with Guevara. Guevara claimed that Andrade hits too hard in the ring. In the rest of the interview, Andrade claims that Guevera entered his room and when confronted Sammy did not say anything to the sorts and did not have a problem with it. Thus the Twitter exchange rolled on.
Andrade is unhappy with his role in the company, thus the stipulation to his match that was supposed to happen on Rampage. During his interview and Twitter exchange with Guevara, WWE is mentioned and how he wants to go back there. Andrade’s wife Charolette Flair works for WWE. And with Triple H taking over there is some backstage tension with all the wrestlers.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter and FWOnline, “Andrade’s trying to get fired…There are a few people, and it’s not that many, it’s like three, that want to leave [AEW]. And Andrade is one of them.”
“Tuesday night they were talked to, both of them, and they were told no fighting. Andrade was told that…you’re not gonna get fired if you fight, but you will be sent home. And Andrade said don’t worry, nothing’s gonna happen, there’s gonna be no fighting…Sammy [said] the same thing. Nothing’s gonna happen. They had security there. Everybody was warned ahead of time.”
In addition, Meltzer adds from those who witnessed what happened, “Andrade was waiting in the hallway. He got two punches in before it was broken up, and Sammy didn’t fight back…[Andrade] did throw two punches and then it was broken up right away, and Andrade was sent home…It was broken up immediately, people were there, and people saw it.”
This was more of a one-way fight as Andrade is the one who sucked-punched Sammy Guevara. And luckily people in AEW saw this one coming unlike what happened with CM Punk, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. Guevara has been spoken to by Khan in regard to the incident, but some backstage felt like Sammy needed to be punished as well.
Guevara competed in the main event alongside Chris Jericho against Bryan Danielson and Daniel Garcia. Guevara scored the pin and was put on the shoulders of Jericho Appreciation Society members. Not a good look to end the show after what we know.
This is the second incident involving Guevara in the past couple of months. Recall, Guevara said some nasty things about Eddie Kingston. This led to Kingston being suspended for two weeks for getting into a backstage altercation with Guevara. Guevara has major heat backstage and with the fans right now. In his first year with the company, Guevara was suspended for an incident from his past in remarks about then WWE wrestler Sasha Banks.
One thing is for sure Tony Khan needs a talent relations guy to get the locker room under control. He also needs to hit Sammy Guevara with a suspension as reports continue to come about what happened during Dynamite. There can’t be a double standard.
