Survivor Series is getting a whole new meaning under the Triple H regime. I just wish William Regal was around to say the words War Games:
In an interview with The Ringer.com, Triple H confirmed that he is bringing War Games to the Survivor Series.
War Games was always a staple under Triple H in NXT. During the Survivor Series, NXT held a Takeover Event Called War Games every year. And oh yeah he is bringing the Takeover name back as well. But now the main roster is getting War Games. Not only that but instead of Raw vs Smackdown, which has been in years past, which nobody cared about, it will be more a traditional Survivor Series based on storylines as we saw in the early version of this event.
“We’ll have a men’s WarGames match and a women’s WarGames match. The tradition of the Survivor Series has ebbed and flowed and changed slightly over time, but this will be similar to that,” Paul ‘Triple H’Levesque said to the Ringer. “This will not be Raw versus SmackDown. It will be much more story-line driven. I still look at it as a traditional component to Survivor Series in there because it’s large teams of people competing. We just upped the ante a little bit with WarGames and made it evolve.”
Ever since Levesque was named head of creative and the new Chief Content Officer at WWE, the product has improved. Levesque has changed with the times and understands today’s wrestling fans. Incorporating War Games into the Survivor Series gives this premium live event a boost. Something this event has desperately needed for quite some time.

Fans never really cared about Raw vs Smackdown. Because brand supremacy never mattered as wrestlers from each showed up on both shows anyway. And for a matter of four weeks, WWE wanted you to care. The only year it really mattered is when NXT was involved. But now, with WWE basically having two shows under one brand it makes sense to change the Survivor Series up again.
War Games came from the mind of the late great Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes was involved in the first ever War Games match in Jim Crockett’s Promotion against the Four Horsemen. The match evolved and WCW picked up the event when the NWA was taken over. Once WCW went out of business the match was not seen again until Triple H revived it in November of 2017. Unlike the traditional War Games, where the two rings had a roof, which AEW does, there is no top to the cage in WWE. Once all the participants entered the match can be won by pinfall or submission. In the original match, once everyone entered the match could only end by surrender, submission or a person being knocked out to end the match.
The Thanksgiving tradition is back with a bang. Survivor Series takes place Saturday, November 26th live in Boston at TD Garden.
