It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for Wednesday night AEW Dynamite are out. This week AEW Dynamite was highlighted by the Dynamite Final of the Trios Tournament between The Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks) taking on Will Ospreay and Aussie Open. In addition, the AEW World Title match for ALL OUT was set up. Let’s see how this week’s show did.
AEW Dynamite Back Over A Million
This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was the go-home show for ALL OUT in Chicago this Sunday. As with Double or Nothing, AEW is in Chicago all week for ALL OUT which includes Dynamite and Rampage for the prelude to the show on Sunday.
With that being said, this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was live in Cleveland, OH and the crowd was electric. The show was jam-packed with non-stop action. It was a very clean show too. The August 31st edition of AEW Dynamite week’s show was viewed by 1,020,000 million people and did a .34in the 18-49 demo.
AEW Dynamite last night on TBS (8-10pm):
1,020,000 viewers
P18-49 rating: 0.35
#2 cable original in P18-49

This was the highest P18-49 viewership number since July 6. Though the viewership was down from the previous week by only a little bit, this is the second straight week Dynamite was over a million viewers. It is the first time that Dynamite went over a million in back-to-back weeks since the road to ALL OUT last year. AEW Dynamite was number two on cable according to Showbuzzdaily.com. The show only trailed Serena Williams at the US Open. However, the P18-49 was up from the previous week.
Show Recap
The show opened with Jon Moxley Promo in Chicago. There was a mixed reaction to the undisputed AEW World Champion. Moxley cut a heel promo on CM Punk in Chicago that did not go over too well. He talked about how Punk did not have a heart and champions did not fold. He never folds and can go for 60 minutes, unlike Punk. Moxley had an open contract for ALL OUT and said he was professional wrestling. He signed and left it in the ring for anyone to pick it up. Ace Steele came out to pick up the contract and bring it back to the locker room.
That was the theme of this show finding an opponent for Moxley for Sunday. Later in the night, the hometown guy CM Punk came out. Jim Ross talked about his foot and how he may not be ready to come back. Punk looked depressed and “lost his smile” but then Ace Steele came back out. He is Punk’s long-time friend and trainer. Steele had a great promo to fire Punk up and tell him who he really is. This got people into the rematch. Punk then cut a fire promo about he was Chicago. Moxley returned later for another promo segment accepting the match and saying pain and suffering were coming to CM PUNK.

The first match of the night saw Bryan Danielson take on Jake Hager. Prior to the match, Daniel Garcia pledged his allegiance to the Jericho Appreciation Society. Garcia told Jericho he didn’t need to cheat to beat Danielson. Hager and Danielson had a solid match. Danielson defeated Hager and Jericho came down to knock out Danielson with a chair. However, Garcia made sure that did not happen. It seems Garcia is leaning towards Danielson or this is a swerve for Sunday.
Then we saw Hikaru Shida, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, and Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D in tag team action. These four ladies will fight for the interim AEW Women’s title on Sunday. This was a solid match with Shida picking up the win over Baker. Should be an interesting match Sunday to see who comes out on top. Some nice promo segments with Pac and Kip Sabin for the All-Atlantic title. In addition, Miro, Darby Allin, and Sting cut a promo on the House of Black for their match on Sunday as well. FTR/Wardlow had a squash match to get some action in before their trios match against Jay Lethal and Motor City Machine Guns.
Dante Martin, Rey Fenix, Wheeler Yuta, and Rush had a four-way match. These four men will be in the Casino Ladder Match along with Claudio, and Andrade is in the match. Along with the Joker. We wonder who that could be.
The main event saw United Empire (Will Ospreay and Aussie Open) take on The Elite (Kenny Omega and Young Bucks). It was announced that Hangman Adam Page will join Dark Order in their trios’ match on Friday against Best Friends. Do yourselves a favour and go watch this match. Excellent from start to finish. All six guys were incredible. Will Ospreay is a star and his feud with Omega is excellent. The crowd loved every minute of this match. So any high spots with all six competitors. Omega looked a lot better. No shoulder brace this time.
The ending was perfect as the Elite won and headed to Sunday. The last image is off Ospreay on the ramp ala John Cena at Wrestlemania 28 after losing to The Rock. From the looks of it, Ospreay and Omega will be headlining WrestleKingdom 17 in the Toyko Dome in January.
