It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for Wednesday night AEW Dynamite are out. It has been a while since we did the ratings for Dynamite. Let’s see how this week’s show did.
Number One Contender Match Highlight AEW Dynamite
This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a number one contender match between Wheeler Yuta and Chris Jericho. The winner would go on to face Jon Moxley next week at Quake by the Lake for the AEW World Title.
With that being said, this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite was live in Columbus, OH and the crowd was electric. The show was jam-packed with non-stop action. It was a very clean show too. This week’s show was viewed by 938,000 people and did a .32 in the 18-49 demo. Both numbers were down from the previous week. AEW Dynamite was ranked number one cable in the demo on cable according to Showbuzzdaily.com.

The show opened with an excellent match between Jay Lethal and Orange Cassidy. There was some history as these two men wrestlers on Rampage in a six-man tag team match. This was a solid match as both guys got their spots in. Lethal won the match and post-match he set up the match with Wardlow for the TNT title at Battle of the Belts III on Saturday.
Following this, the Undisputed Elite returned to the ring. Adam Cole cut a great promo talking about being on the road with all the guys in the ring. However, he did mention that he and Kyle O’Reilly were not medically cleared to wrestle. Cole was disappointed in the Young Bucks are not choosing Bobby Fish as their tag partner in the trios’ tournament. Therefore, if he couldn’t wrestle then the Bucks couldn’t wrestle. As O’Reilly, Fish, and Cole attacked the Bucks. Hangman Adam Page ran down to make the save as it has been continuously teased that he and Bucks are going to reunite.
Following this Jon Moxley cut a great promo on the main event and stated he did not care who won, he was going to inflict as much pain as possible and was not going to lose the title. After that, we got an excellent women’s tag team match with Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm (ThunderStorm) taking on Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D and Jamie Hayter. This was one of the best matches in company history. These ladies performed and it was given time and the finish was perfect. The rivalry between Baker and Rosa is awesome along with Hayter and Storm. Finally, Hayter and Baker picked up the victory after a timing issue with Storm’s hip attack as she hit Rosa. With the win, Hayter is in line for an AEW Women’s Title match against Rosa at Battle of the Belts III.

AEW set up the Coffin match between Brody King and Darby Allin and as the feud between Ricky Starks and Hobbs begins as there is no more Team Taz. We also saw Matt Hardy and Christian Cage fight. This was a solid match. Two veteran guys that know how to work. After the match, Jungle Boy ran out of the crowd to get his hands on Christian as he made the save on Matt Hardy.
Things got fun from there with the Dumpster Match between the Acclaimed and the Gunn Club. Billy Gunn made this match famous in 1998 as part of the New Age Outlaws. Caster cut a great rap prior to the match officially beginning. Acclaimed went over in a fun way to end this rivalry between the two teams. Just like the Outlaws, Acclaimed pushed the Dumpster off the stage with the Gunn Club in it.

The main event saw Chirs Jericho take on Wheeler Yuta. This was an excellent match to close the show. Jericho being in better shape helps too. Yuta continues to improve each week and it is showing in the ring. He got lots of spots and worked over Jericho throughout the entire match. Jericho picked up the win, but there was a sense it could have been Wheeler, but AEW always wanted this rematch with Moxley. Jericho won via the Lion Tamer as Moxley made the save after. It will be the Lionheart Chris Jericho taking on Moxley next week for the title.
