It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for Wednesday night AEW Dynamite are out. Though ratings were down last week, it was a good show. Better than in weeks past. This week’s show was jam-packed with loads of fun matches as the build to Forbidden Door is on.
Jon MoxleyHighlights AEW Dynamite
AEW is on the road to Foribben Door and with the news of CM Punk being injured and not being able to defend the title, the company created the Interim AEW World Championship. The show was built around this World Title Eliminator series. The Casino Battle Royal would open the show with the winner facing Jon Moxley in the main event. The winner of that match was going to Foribben Door to face the winner of the Hiroshi Tanashi/Hirooki Goto match.
With that being said the June 8th edition of AEW was in Kansas City and it was a good crowd. The show was excellent too. Non-stop pace. This week’s show was viewed by 939,000 people and did .34 in the 18-49 demo The viewership remained strong though it was down from the previous week. It was the third straight week viewership was over the 900,000 mark. The demo was down from the previous week. The NBA Finals was on ABC which meant AEW Dynamite was number one on cable according to Showbuzzdaily.com.

As previously mentioned the show opened with Casino Battle Royale, some big names were missing as we came to find out. However, it was still good. Kyle O’Reilly ended up being the winner of the Battle Royal. He went on to face Moxley later on in the night. Moxley cut a promo after the match. Very good. It feels like he will be the new Interim champ. O’Reilly and Moxley was the main event of the show and it was an excellent match. More of a sparring match than a wrestling match. Moxley ended up winning and will go on to Forbidden Door.
Then AEW announced a new championship, the All-Atlantic Championship. The first match in the tournament was Pac vs Buddy Matthews. This was very high-quality stuff from these two guys. Face-paced match as well. Pac got the win and qualified for the four-way at Forbidden Door. After the match, Eddie Kingston cut a great promo on the Jericho Appreciation Society.
We had the arrival of Will Ospreay and company to AEW. Again AEW is setting up Forbidden Door PPV, he and United Empire laid out Trent Beretta. From there we got another excellent match in Hangman Adam Page against David Finlay. Page won and called out Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Championship, but Adam Cole gave his two cents. Okada faces Jay White at Dominion PPV with the title on the line. Page vs Okada will be good, but to have Page and Cole again is unnecessary.

Wardlow came out next to discuss why he wasn’t in the Battle Royal. He said, CM Punk is still the recognized champ and he wants to earn a victory over the real champion. Told him to heal up soon. Great promo. Also called out Scorpio Sky and wanted the TNT title. Wardlow wants to bring respect back to the title. From there we got a Women’s World title match between Thunder Rosa and Marina Shafir. This match was ok, though Shafir had a look after the match that can make her a threat. Also, Toni Storm hold the title after giving the audience a nice tease.
