It’s Thursday and you know what that means… ratings for Wednesday night AEW Dynamite are out. Though ratings were down last week, it was a good show. Better than in weeks past. This week’s show was jam-packed with loads of fun matches and segments throughout as we head towards Double or Nothing.
Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Highlights AEW Dynamite
The May 18, 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite was live from Houston, Texas. The last three weeks for AEW Dynamite have been under 900,000 viewers as there has been a lot of competition from the NBA and NHL. Though the show is still top five on cable.

However, that changed this week. This week’s show was viewed by 922,000 people and did .33 in the 18-49 demo which is about 430,000 people. The viewership was back over the 900,000 mark and the demo stayed the same. This was the best viewership number for AEW Dynamite since April 27th. With so much competition from the NHL and NBA, AEW Dynamite was ranked seventh on cable according to Showbuzzdaily.com.

This show was an excellent show from start to finish. Again AEW Dynamite is trending in an upward direction. Tony Khan kicked things off with an Owen Hart Foundation tournament match between Samoa Joe and the Joker, Johnny Elite formerly known as John Morrison. This was a good match, though people expected Johnny Gargano in this spot. Joe got the win, but Jay Lethal and company showed up. Also, we had a tense moment between the Hardys and Young Bucks setting the stage for what was to come.
Then we got CM Punk coming out on commentary with Adam Page in action against Konosuke Takeshita. This was a good match. Punk’s commentary was great adding to the feud saying he is in the mind of the champion. The two had another tense standoff after the match.

After an unadvertised match with Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland, Wardlow came out to receive his 10 lashes from MJF. Wardlow no-sold the lashes and clearly was frustrating MJF and getting in his head. It took a low blow and a beat down from Shawn Spears to get the big guy down. Great set up as we head towards the steel cage match next week before MJF and Wardlow meet at Double or Nothing.
Another Owen Hart Foundation match with Rey Fenix and Kyle O’Reilly. What a match this was. Probably the best of the show. These two put on a clinic with O’Reilly moving on to face Samoa Joe in the next round. Then we had Jericho Appreciation Society and Blackpool Combat Club with Sanatana/Ortiz and Kingston. This was a solid segment and before Jericho could announce Stadium Stampede, Moxley shot the idea down saying that was a different time for a different place.
Finally, we got Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D in action on the women’s side of the bracket as Maki Itoh was announced as the women’s joker. After Baker won, Toni Storm came out, that will be a heck of a match. Also, Serena Deeb did a shoot promo after the match setting things with Thunder Rosa. In the main event, Adam Cole is heading to Las Vegas after he defeated Jeff Hardy in the semifinals. After the Undisputed Elite took everyone out, Sting no-sold some more chair shots. But the Bucks and Hardys clearly is happening.
