AEW Dynamite has a new era beginning January 5th, when the show debuts on TBS. Through the two years, it has been on television, AEW Dynamite has provided us with some memorable moments on TNT. And do not forget for the better part of a year and a half AEW operated in a pandemic putting on a great show. Let’s take a look at the top five moments during the TNT Dynamite era.
Honorable Mentions:
Before we get into the list of moments or matches that made the cut let’s take a look at some moments or matches that were just on the outside.
- The Dinner Debonaire – Chris Jericho and MJF
- Cody Rhodes/Red Velvet vs Shaq and Jade Cargill
- Blood and Guts – Inner Circle vs Pinnacle
- Cody Rhodes Moonsault Off The Top Of The Cage
- MJF and CM Punk War of Words
Not to mention so many memorable debuts from FTR, KENTA, Malakai Black, Brodie Lee, Matt Hardy, Ruby Soho and others.
5b. Sting Debuts – Winter Is Coming 2020
You can’t mention AEW Dynamite without mentioning the Debut of Sting. You can hear it Tony Schiavone to this day “IT’S STING!!” “IT’S STING!!!” As Team Taz beat down Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin, the music hits and the Icon Sting showed up on TNT for the first time in almost 20 years. What a moment as Sting was going out of professional wrestling on his terms. Sting acknowledged Allin and Rhodes before making his exit. Even though this was during the pandemic, with limited seating, it was a moment for the ages.
5a. Santana and Ortiz vs Best Friends – Parking Lot Brawl – Sue’s Mini-Van
One of the tag team matches AEW has put on in their brief history. While AEW is known for their tag team division. Yeah the rules are bent here and there with no tags and lots of double team action with the referee in the ring, but the matches are very entertaining. This was a five-star between two great tag team’s in Santana and Ortiz and Best Friends. During the match there were lots of moments that were cringe-worthy as both teams pulled out all the stops to win the match. In the end, Best Friends got the victory when Orange Cassidy came out of trunk. But the moment of the night was when Trent’s mom rolled up in a new mini-van, the boys got in and before she drove away, rolled down the window and flipped the bird to Santana and Ortiz and drove off.

4. Thunder Rosa vs Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. – Lights Out Match
One of the best rivalries in the AEW women’s division that is still ongoing main evented the March 19, 2021 edition of AEW Dynamite as Thunder Rosa took on Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D in a Lights Out Match. At the time this unsanctioned match was the culmination of a four-month storyline between Rosa and Baker. This match has been hailed as one of the best matches ever in the history of the company. Both ladies pulled out all the stops as this match contained everything you wanted including blood, destruction, and awe-inspiring moments. These wrestlers were praised after the match for the work they had down. Thunder Rosa came out victorious, but the whole women’s division won that night as Baker and Rosa showed women can main event an AEW Dynamite event.
3. AEW Grand Slam – Kenny Omega vs Bryan Danielson
What a moment in wrestling history. Who would have thought the two greatest wrestlers in the world were meeting up. It could only happen once in a lifetime. Tony Kahn invaded WWE country when he took Dynamite to the big stage of Arthur Ashe Stadium. Kahn needed a big match for AEW Dynamite Grand Slam and what bigger match than then AEW World Champion Kenny Omega taking on Bryan Danielson. It was an awesome moment to begin the show as these two men stared each other down as the crowd chanted “AEW, AEW, AEW.” Omega and Danielson pulled out all the stops and had the crowd on edge. The match went to a time limit draw leaving the fans wanting more.
2. First-Ever AEW Dynamite – October 2, 2019
AEW Dynamite Debuted on October 2, 2019 on TNT with Chris Jericho “Le Champion” as the AEW World Championship that he won at ALL Out. The show featured a match between two members that would play a pivotal role in the company’s early history as Cody Rhodes took on Sammy Guevara. Pac and Hangman Adam Page put on a solid match, where PAC improved his record to 2-0 Riho defeated Nyla Rose to become the first-ever AEW Women’s champion.
The main event of the show saw Kenny Omega team with the Young Bucks against Chris Jericho and Sanatan Oritz and what a match it was. But the action did not stop after the match as Guevara jumped Cody Rhodes, who came down to help his friends in The Elite, and Jake Hager debuted in AEW. As the cameras went off the air The Inner Circle was formed with Jericho, Sanata and Ortiz, Guevara, and Hager.
1. Brodie Lee Tribute Show
One of the best shows ever put together by any wrestling organization was the tribute show to Brodie Lee Tribute Show on December 30, 2020. Just four days after Brodie Lee’s aka Jon Huber’s death, AEW put together a tribute show for him. All the matches were filled with emotion for the man that truly beloved by everyone in the wrestling world. Originally the December 30th Dynamite show was supposed to be the two-part show entitled New Year’s Smash but on December 28th Tony Kahn decided to change plans and have a show celebrating the life of Brodie Lee.
All the matches featured members of the Dark Order, the faction Brodie Lee was associated with as he debuted in AEW as the Exalted One. It was an emotional night with fantastic matches. The show opened with a 10 bell salute to him and the final segment had Cody Rhodes retiring the original TNT Championship giving it to Brodie Jr (-1). It truly was a great moment despite the circumstances surrounding a tragedy in the wrestling world.
Again these are some of the moments and matches during the TNT era of AEW Dynamite. There are more that did not make the cut.
