Netflix’s Escape The Undertaker is silly, but it’s supposed to be.
We know that wrestling is a ridiculous exercise. The characters are outlandish, like wrestling garbage men, the Wizard from Oz, and whatever the Gobbledy Gooker was supposed to be. One of the most outrageous characters is The Undertaker. An undead wizard with the power to possess people, shoot lighting, and appear and disappear at will is one of the weirdest characters ever in wrestling. That’s why he makes for a perfect villain in a campy, PG horror choose-your-own-adventure.
In Netflix’s Escape The Undertaker, it is in your hands to guide the New Day through Undertaker’s mansion. Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E are attempting to steal the urn and use its power. Undertaker has always had extra power from the urn carried around by Paul Bearer. Turns out that he gets that power from feeding on good souls. There are no better souls in WWE than the Princes of Positivity, the New Day.

You’re given the power to choose what the New Day does throughout the spooky mansion. From hidden passages to spooky fog, there are lots of creepy happenings. There are also many fun nods for wrestling fans to characters, moments, and pieces of Undertaker lore. There are multiple endings so your choices do have a large impact on the course of the story, but the important decisions only come at the end. Most of your decisions throughout are cosmetic in terms of how the story progresses to its surprisingly darker final act.
The New Day does a great job with their acting. It seems like they’re just reacting naturally to being in a haunted house, with Woods being consistently the most scared. The Undertaker is… alright in his acting chops. He never was the greatest in acting out the pure goofiness of his character, but he does well enough as a spooky antagonist for the show.
If you’re looking for a fun way to kill 30 minutes, Escape The Undertaker is a good way to do it for wrestling fans. Horror fans may be turned away by a PG rating, but it is still spooky enough to get you into the Halloween spirit.
