For the third time in as many months and the second time in June, WWE has released a batch of talented wrestlers. This round of cuts deeply weakened the cruiserweight and tag team divisions. The released wrestlers include:
- Fandango
- Tyler Breeze
- Killian Dain
- August Grey
- Ever-Rise
- Bollywood Boyz
- Tony Nese
- Ariya Daivari
- Marina Shafir
- Curt Stallion
- Arturo Ruas
- Tino Sabbatelli
Also losing their job as part of the cuts was writer Kenice Mobley. Mobley’s name had made the rounds after appearing on a podcast where she said she didn’t watch wrestling and got Bobby Lashley’s name wrong. Despite having a strong television writing background that WWE covets, Mobley was unfairly lambasted online by wrestling fans.
The tag division lost three quality teams with these cuts. Breezango was one of the best combinations of comedy and in-ring skill the division had. Who didn’t love the Fashion Files when they were happening? Ever-Rise had a lot of potential, and Dain was teaming with Drake Maverick in a fun pairing.
205 Live is losing some veterans and newer faces. Daivari and Nese have been there since the beginning, with Nese being a former Cruiserweight Champion. Grey & Stallion were two of the newest additions to the roster and had shown great promise.
These cuts come at a time when WWE is having it’s most profitable year in history, making the cuts a head-scratching move. Best of luck to all those released. It will be exciting to see them make the independent scene that much stronger.
