37 Thoughts About Wrestlemania 37 Night Two

1. No rain delays on our Wrestlemania Sunday. It was a beautiful night in Tampa for round two.

It’s a beautiful evening for #WrestleMania night two 😍 pic.twitter.com/0CrpmWtZW9

— NoShow Wrestling Podcast (@NoShowWrestling) April 11, 2021

2. Ashland Craft gave us America The Beautiful on Night Two. I preferred Bebe Rexha’s electric guitar version on Night One, but the peak would’ve been Elias doing the anthem.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here to perform America The Beautiful, please welcome the new voice of country music, @AshlandCraft! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/Q4T60HWMQM

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

3. Our hosts were back, and this time Titus and Hogan were dressed as pirates. You could hear Hulk Hogan getting booed every time he talked, and it was fantastic.

Our #WrestleMania hosts brought the fashion to Night 2! 🏴‍☠️ ⚓

Randy Orton def. The Fiend

4. Randy Orton was thrilled to hear cheers from the crowd during his entrance. Orton got a little overwhelmed hearing the fans during his entrance. He looked crisp in the white gear, looking like the white knight against the demonic Fiend.

Randy Orton heard the cheers from the live crowd and couldn’t hide his excitement 😭 #WrestleMania37 #wrestlemania pic.twitter.com/qLAPRF1GwK

— Jessi Davin (@jessithebuckeye) April 12, 2021

5. Speaking of looking crisp, The Fiend was no longer in his charred state. He walked through some sort of portal and reverted to his “pre-set-on-fire-self”. Alexa Bliss came out for the entrance, and there was a giant jack-in-the-box at ringside. The Fiend emerged from it in his old form, ready to mess Orton up. This presentation was fantastic.

— NoDQ.com: #WWE #Wrestlemania 37 news (@nodqdotcom) April 12, 2021

6. While it was awesome to have The Fiend back, it was less awesome to have the red lighting return.

Fans seeing that the red lighting is back #Wrestlemania pic.twitter.com/W5Q3LZsahx

— Full Press Wrestling (@FPC_Wrestling) April 12, 2021

7. Fiend had Orton put away with a Sister Abigail, but Alexa Bliss distracted Fiend from the top of the jack-in-the-box. Bliss had black liquid running down her face and it distracted The Fiend for long enough that he got caught with an RKO. Orton gets the surprise win, and Bliss turning makes Fiend even more of a babyface.

Uhhhhh….

Did @AlexaBliss_WWE just cost #TheFiend his match against @RandyOrton? #WrestleMania @WWEBrayWyatt pic.twitter.com/2MzBEPiTpP

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

8. While it was definitely interesting, it was strange to see The Fiend defeated by a single RKO. Seth Rollins once came close to actually murdering him and couldn’t put The Fiend down, but one RKO can? A strange decision overall.

Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax (c) def. Natalya & Tamina to retain the Women’s Tag Team Championships

9. Natalya & Tamina have quickly become a pretty solid tag team. The idea of them both being legacy wrestlers and longstanding but overlooked members of the division is working. They had lots of good tag offense as well.

10. Nia Jax needs to watch her language! Just kidding – her saying that she was “King Kong, bitch” was excellent. She also told Tamina “you ain’t shit”. Give us more trash talking Nia!

“I’M KING KONG, BITCH” 😭 #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/oy6MTPN6K2

— Jessi Davin (@jessithebuckeye) April 12, 2021

11. Baszler and Tamina were too much for the challengers and were able to retain. The star here was Natalya. When will people put respect on Nattie’s name as one of the best women’s wrestlers WWE has ever had. Consistency and work ethic are worth something.

Kevin Owens def. Sami Zayn

12. Logan Paul got the second biggest boo of the night behind Hogan. I’d say it was more than well deserved.

13. Owens & Zayn have been doing this for almost 20 years. Even if this match had a strange build, it still was a testament to the longevity of these two and their incredible careers together.

It's been more than 17 yrs since Sami Zayn+Kevin Owens were in the ring together for the first time. They were 19.

Back then, Sami was known as Stevie McFly and Owens was called Kevin Steen.

It's the greatest feud of wrestling modern era! And now it's coming to #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/oFDbexyLko

— TheRealSnowden (@JESnowden) April 11, 2021

14. We got some massive spots in this match, but none made me wince more than this suplex. Owens went neck first onto the apron and it looked brutal.

NECK FIRST ON THE APRON! That former "friendship" is long gone. #WrestleMania @FightOwensFight @SamiZayn pic.twitter.com/qQzR88FGcz

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

15. Kevin Owens picked up the victory after surviving a Helluva Kick and hitting Zayn with a Stunner. The crowd seemed a little disappointed to not get a Pop-up Powerbomb, as some in the crowd were calling for it.

16. Logan Paul tried to switch alliances after the match which infuriated Zayn. Paul pushed Zayn over when he confronted him and called him a whiner. He tried to raise Owens hand, and he ate a Stunner as well. It was something so many of us wanted to do for so long.

STUNNER! STUNNER! STUNNER! DOWN GOES @LoganPaul!#WrestleMania @FightOwensFight

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

17. We got a backstage segment from Riddle & Great Khali. It was really awkward until RVD showed up and gave them some RVD Rolling Papers. I don’t know who this was for.

BROOOOOOO!#WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/hqVVc9p18S

— Peyton Wesner (@pcwesner) April 12, 2021

Sheamus def. Matt Riddle (c) to win the United States Championship

18. Riddle with some solid Evel Knievel inspired gear. Some of the best of the night.

If there was ONE place I wanted to see someone spill at #Wrestlemania pic.twitter.com/DT25ceiFsi

— Wrestle Critic (@WrestleCritic) April 12, 2021

19. Lots of good action in this match, including a top rope belly-to-belly by Riddle. Sheamus also hit a Brogue Kick that looked like it should’ve landed Riddle’s head somewhere outside Miami.

Brooooo 😱😱

(via @WrestleMania) pic.twitter.com/YrN5YTfS3F

— WWE on FOX (@WWEonFOX) April 12, 2021

20. It did have a close call for a horrific botch. Sheamus was going for a top rope White Noise when he slipped. More impressively, Sheamus was able to land with Riddle still in position.

21. Our finish here was incredible. Riddle went for a springboard moonsault and got Brogue Kicked out of the sky. Sheamus is now a three-time United States Champion! The kick also busted Riddle’s chops up, and he left the ring bleeding from the mouth.

🤯🤯🤯 #wrestlemania

Apollo Crews def. Big E (c) in a Nigerian Drum Fight to win the Intercontinental Championship

22. This year’s Wrestlemania has some of the best integration of celebrities we’ve seen. Bad Bunny stole the show on Saturday night. Logan Paul got stunnered, which was awesome. And Wale performed Big E’s theme on his way to the ring in an excellent special entrance for a star who more than deserves it.

23. This was a home game for E, as he’s from Tampa. He had a logo for Feeding Tampa Bay on his jacket & gear. E was stoked to be out there with Wale, and it’s just so great to see him flourish on his own.

A great entrance for Tampa’s own! #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/pkwe1CHUGG

— The Angle Podcast (@theangleradio) April 12, 2021

24. If you’re uncertain, the Nigerian Drum kendo stick shots in early. Fight stipulation just meant it was No Holds Barred and there were no rules. That meant a ton of weapons involved, with both men getting tons of hardcore work in.

Brutal. #WrestleMania @WWEBigE @WWEApollo pic.twitter.com/67WjsdFeEO

— WWE Universe (@WWEUniverse) April 12, 2021

25. Big E had the match won, but a re-debuting Babatunde/Dabba Kato interfered as Apollo Crews muscle and put E down. Crews has a henchman and some new gold, and E has a fire to set him off in chase of the championship.

WHO IS THIS GUY?! #WrestleMania @WWEBigE @WWEApollo pic.twitter.com/W1U1dlXIt5

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

26. They didn’t call the debuting star Babatunde or Dabba Kato, so I expect that he’ll have a new name to go along with his military garb.

27. We had the 2021 Hall of Fame class come out and get their flowers from the fans. Kane showed up. He did the fire thing and we all popped. We are simple folks.

Give it up for the WWE Hall of Fame, Class of 2021. 🔥 #WrestleMania #WWEHOF@TherealRVD @g8khali @EBischoff @KaneWWE @OzzyOsbourne #MollyHolly #RichHering pic.twitter.com/xyGXe78xjW

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

Rhea Ripley def. Asuka (c) to win the Raw Women’s Championship

28. Ripley got the special Wrestlemania entrance with metal band New Years Day playing her out to the ring. I mean, cool? Or bad? I know nothing about metal music, but it seemed awesome.

👹 𝑻𝑯𝑰𝑺 𝑰𝑺 𝑯𝑬𝑹 𝑩𝑹𝑼𝑻𝑨𝑳𝑰𝑻𝒀 👹@Ash_Costello @NYDrock @RheaRipley_WWE #WrestleMania pic.twitter.com/gYfO3sLxqJ

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

29. Ripley played more of a heel role in this role than we’re really accustomed to. She toyed with Asuka, taunting her and trash talking throughout the match. Will she be heel for her run with the title?

30. Asuka hit a DDT off the apron. No chill from her in this match, pulling out all the stops.

😱 DDT OFF THE APRON 😱

Can @WWEAsuka retain the #WWERaw #WomensTitle against @RheaRipley_WWE at #WrestleMania?! Presented by @OrigCupNoodles. pic.twitter.com/RXfpLAWfsu

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

31. Ripley escaped an Asuka Lock and managed to hit a Riptide for the win. Both shows have new Women’s Champions who can lead the brands for a long time. Excellent work by both Ripley & Bianca Belair this weekend.

WHAT A MOMENT! Congratulations to the NEW #WWERaw #WomenChampion @RheaRipley_WWE! #WrestleMania #WWEAustralia pic.twitter.com/5llk8vfulb

— WWE Australia (@WWEAustralia) April 12, 2021

32. The hosts of Wrestlemania came out once more and were interrupted by Bayley. She complained about not getting her time to shine and being walked over by legends. That brought out the Bellas, who slapped the mic out of Bayley’s hands and tossed her down the ramp. No Becky Lynch, which proved she is always going to be playing with our expectations.

Roman Reigns (c) def. Edge & Daniel Bryan to retain the Universal Championship

33. Man, it was emotional seeing Edge return in the main event. 10 years to the day of announcing his in-ring retirement, Edge got to be in the main event at Wrestlemania once more. The fans loved it, he loved it, everyone loved it.

It took 10 years, but @EdgeRatedR finally sees clearly at #WrestleMania. 🎆🤘 pic.twitter.com/DhzDxGlOPD

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

34. It was a very heelish move of Reigns to not change his music. They know we get pissed off with it still being the old Shield music, so why not keep it.

.@RJStadium, you must ACKNOWLEDGE HIM. #WrestleMania @WWERomanReigns @HeymanHustle @WWEUsos pic.twitter.com/rK36Adiwkw

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

35. Jey Uso had a big role early on, taking out both of Reigns’ challengers. He was quickly dispatched of with a big DDT onto steel steps.

36. So much happened in this match. There were stereo submissions on Roman Reigns. Edge had lost his mind and hit a con-chair-to to Bryan. He would’ve hit one on Reigns, if it wasn’t for the return of Jey Uso. Reigns then delivered a Spear, got the con-chair-to on Edge, and covered both men for the win. Roman Reigns is still the head of the table.

.@WWERomanReigns has pinned both @WWEDanielBryan & @EdgeRatedR to RETAIN the #UniversalTitle in the main event of Night 2's #WrestleMania!

You 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 acknowledge him now. #AndStill @HeymanHustle pic.twitter.com/A0vBzBXQWN

— WWE (@WWE) April 12, 2021

37. Overall, Night One was a slightly better show. Night Two was still an excellent show with big moments, but the first two matches didn’t get us off to a hot start. This was still an incredible experience and a fun Wrestlemania.
