Who should be a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble?
One of the most fun questions heading into any Royal Rumble is who will be the mystery entrants? Last year had two such surprises. MVP returned, and now has become a major player once again on Raw as leader of the Hurt Business. The other surprise was Edge, returning after nearly a decade to active competition.
There are lots of different surprises we could see. Would there be someone who has been out like Edge who makes a return to active competition? A one-off legend appearance like Jim Duggan? Maybe a former World Champion-turned-commentator like JBL or Booker T? Here are three surprise entrants we’d like to see this year.
Carlito
The former Intercontinental & United States Champion Carlito was scheduled for Raw’s Legends Night. He didn’t show up, with reports claiming that he was unwilling to fly in just for a cameo. How about flying him in for a Rumble appearance? Carlito has been gone from the WWE for over a decade, but he hasn’t been inactive. He’s worked the independent scene and for the World Wrestling Council in his home country of Puerto Rico. Carlito was extremely popular during his WWE run and would be a fun addition to the match.
CM Punk
Just kidding. It’s been six years guys, let him rest.
Brodus Clay
Royal Rumble returns are a great spot for some comedy. We’ve seen Godfather return to a huge pop. Hurricane returned in 2018 to a massive pop. Hell, one Rumble had both Honky Tonk Man and Drew Carey. With that, why not bring back a comedy act who would have some fun in the match like Brodus Clay? WWE hasn’t had the Funkasaurus on it’s roster since 2014, and Clay hasn’t really wrestled since 2018. He’s a prime candidate for a short run in the Rumble. Get some dance moves in, get some big spots in, and get eliminated as a way to put over the strength of another wrestler.
Damian Priest
The Royal Rumble is a prime opportunity to debut an NXT wrestler to the main roster. Last year it was Matt Riddle and Keith Lee. Previously, stars like Rusev, Johnny Gargano & Aleister Black have been used in the Rumble. This year Damian Priest is primed for that spot. It’s been rumored that Priest was primed for a call-up this month as a part of the Roman Reigns-Kevin Owens feud. With that idea nixed, the Rumble match is a great spot for his debut. Of all of these possible entrants, Priest would have the best showing. Priest is ready for a spot on the main roster, having accomplished a lot in NXT already. He could be a fun addition to the Rumble match.
Those are three of the many, many options for surprise entrants in this year’s Rumble. Who would you most like to see in the Rumble? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @FPC_Wrestling.
